It’s imperative that we believe in ourselves.
One of the most important things in life, which you can do for yourself, is to believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in you, who will? If you don’t believe in you, how can you use your God given gifts to succeed? If you don’t believe you can succeed, chances are, you won’t.
How do you develop a belief in yourself, when that belief is just not there? Learn! Learn to be the best at what you do and you will become the best. Practice and keep practising. Get yourself a mentor, who will guide you, and push you if needs be and one day, you’ll be proud of your efforts.
Most of us don’t utilise our time wisely and we believe we don’t have the time to spend developing ourselves to be the best we can be. But I’ve got news for you: You can find the time.
My challenge to you is; what can you change, cut out, or increase, to develop your skills? I’m sure if you think about it, you’ll find areas you can improve on. You see, we can all do better. Even if we’re doing well, we can still do better.
If you think about it, you could get up earlier, go to bed later, watch less T.V., spend less time on chat sites, Twitter and Facebook and the like. You can plan your shopping and menus so you’re more organised, going into town less frequently. You can write lists of things that need doing, so you don’t make excuses for not getting them done. Stop that procrastination.
You see, for every minute you save, you have a minute more to work on being the best you can be, a minute more for working towards the life you dream about.
If you don’t have money to pursue your dream, what can you do to earn more? What areas can you save money on, to help you in this? There are plenty of books on the topic, so go for it. This isn’t to say it will be easy. Anything worthwhile, if it’s big enough, is never easy. But if you don’t even start, how are you going to get where you want to be?
I love to write. For a long time, I raised my family and wrote when I could. I worked and wrote when I could. I studied writing, continually improving my craft over the years. I read how others succeeded at writing. I set a word count and wrote to that count, almost every day and still do.
Writing is what I love to do and I had to make it a priority to write, even as I raised children and worked. Even as I ran a household and cooked meals and exercised and did my bible study and went to church and helped others achieve their dreams (for it’s important to bring others with you). Even as I did all this, I still made sure to fill my daily word count quota. With all the study I did, on how others became successful writers, I knew, if I wanted to realise my dream, I had to write. If you want it badly enough, you’ll find the time to make it happen.
Maybe you love singing, or horse riding, or playing cricket. Whatever it is, make it a priority and you will learn, gain experience and grow and in time, you too can be the best at what you do.
I started with no belief in myself. I was broke, overweight, and unhealthy. I didn’t enjoy my job. I cleaned motels for a living. (Some people really enjoy that job, however, I didn’t.) I had so little confidence in myself, so little belief that I could do anything, I never ventured to try anything new.
One day, as a severe depression had long since taken hold, I was given a little book called: Feel the Fear and do it Anyway, by Susan Jeffers and that little book sparked a small ember of hope within me. To date I’ve read well and truly over two hundred books on achieving my dreams and now, I’m an investigative photojournalist and author, who trades currency and commodities on the global stock exchange.
I’ve come a long way and I continue to hone my craft. Now, I love to try new things. I love to stretch myself into areas I never thought I could, or would do and life is so much better, so much more fun, with so much less anxiety and worry.
Give it a go. Set yourself some new and exciting goals and if you have to start small, start small. Build and grow and in time, your dream will become your reality. And remember, you’re never too old and it’s never too late.
